Education Programs at Burlington County Historical Society

Burlington County at Home: 1750's House

This program contains two parts; "The How Family at Home and ""Uncovering Burlington County."

The How Family at Home:

This program takes place in our historic How Family house which is set up as the residence of the How family who lived in Burlington on the eve of the American Revolution. Students investigate the house in groups discovering artifacts and items related to daily life in colonial Burlington. Students will explore 1770s trade, economics, medicine, and hygiene through activities and discussion.

Uncovering
Burlington County*:

This program takes place in our museum gallery. Students divide into groups and each group receives an artifact box. Each box contains artifacts
related to historical sites around Burlington County. Using curatorial tools
and methods, each group will uncover which site their artifacts belong to.
The students will then present their artifacts to the rest of the class. The
museum teacher will end the program with a discussion about how each site
relates to the larger context of Burlington County history.

Cost per student: $8.00

Tour Duration: 1.5 to 3 hours and is suitable for grades 2-8.

*Uncovering Burlington County may be exchanged for a walking tour. Please contact us for details.
